Cultural Olympiad

Spread over four years, the Cultural Olympiad is designed to give everyone in the UK a chance to be part of London 2012 and inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people. In Bournemouth, Dorset, and Poole, arts organisations, artists, museums and other cultural organisations have been asked to put forward an education offer for all schools to participate in.

The London 2012 Festival
The London 2012 Festival will run between June 21st and September 9th. This UK-wide festival will showcase the work of some of the world's leading artists and will have a truly international dimension and appeal. Between January and June 2012 a number of trailblazer events and performances will be held in anticipation of the London 2012 Festival.

Events in Dorset - Weymouth and Portland
Following the pattern of the London 2012 Festival and highlighting its significance as the only venue outside of London to host a whole programme of Olympic and Paralympic sport, a wide range of events, performances and exhibitions will be held in Weymouth and Portland and beyond along the length of the Jurassic Coast, the spectacular setting for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing and windsurfing events.

A mix of high quality festivals, whole programmes of activity, one off performances and exhibitions, representing professional and community interests across all art forms and other disciplines, including science and sustainability, this programme is designed to give local people and visitors to the area a rounded and complete Olympic experience.

While some of this programme is subject to funding and so yet to be confirmed, the documents above outline the learning and participation opportunities for schools and settings in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole linked to the ambitious range of activities and events that are planned in 2011-12. More will be added and circulated to schools and settings.
