Creative Careers Festival – Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole
Friday 3rd February 2012 @ Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts

Thank you to everyone that came to the festival, and that helped organise and run it - it was a fantastic buzzy day with over 130 young people from 14 local schools attending! Photos and a film of the day will be added here soon, along with the festival booklet giving advice and links on progression routes into the creative industries in Bournemouth, Dorset, Poole, and beyond. We'll also be asking everyone for feedback to help plan a bigger and better event in the future.
Festival booklet coming soon!
What was it about?
The Creative Careers Festival aimed to engage, inspire and raise the aspirations and participation of young people aged 13-18 across Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. It promoted the rich arts and cultural offer locally, for young people and emerging artists. As well as highlighting progression routes for training and employment in the creative industries, the festival promoted local participation opportunities, and was also a fantastic chance for young people to network with and meet key arts organisation staff, artists, and colleagues from HE/FE.

What happened?
Young people took part in a creative workshop in either performing arts, music, or visual arts; heard a talk and took part in a Q&A with industry professionals; and visited a marketplace area of stalls and activities presented by some of our key local arts and cultural organisations, FE/HE colleges, companies and practitioners.

Many thanks to all the Marketplace organisations, workshop leaders, and industry speakers. Plus thanks to: Spark Dorset for help in the planning stages, Hannah, Claire and Jules for co-organising and helping to run the day, AUCB students for stewarding, Rosie for chairing the industry talks, Peter and Josh for documenting the day, and of course Lighthouse for hosting the event!

It is a partnership project with Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, and DepARTure - Dorset’s Arts Education agency, and was supported by Arts Council England, Bournemouth Borough Council, Borough of Poole, and Dorset County Council.
