The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust awards grants to charitable organisations in the United Kingdom and overseas, with a different focuses each year. In 2009 the focus is Community and disability, in 2010 it is Children, youth, the elderly and medical, and in 2011 it's Music and the arts and overseas.
These categories are then repeated in a three-year rotation. The deadlines for applications are 1st June and 1st November of each year, and all applicants, whether successful or not, are contacted.
Grants are usually between £1,000 and £10,000, with the majority being £5,000 or less. Exceptionally, grants of up to £20,000 are made, but these are usually for medical research projects. Grants are usually awarded for one year only.
Grants are not made to individuals, or any students, including individuals embarking on a trip overseas with an umbrella charitable organisation.
