Free project toolkit for working with young deaf people, by SOLA ARTS

In 2008, SOLA ARTS secured funding from BBC Children in Need to run a project called 'We Are Superheroes', working with a small group of young Deaf people aged 13-16 to develop comic books that featured Deaf superheroes, and also taught the general public a little bit about Deaf culture and British Sign Language. A free toolkit to help run your own similar project is now available to download.

The project happened at Broadgreen International School's Deaf Resource Centre, and through the process the young people learnt a range of digital arts skills, increased their confidence, and created some incredible characters!

The lessons learnt by SOLA during this project have been brought together in the Toolkit, allowing other arts & community organisations who are working with the Deaf community for the first time to learn from this experience, before embarking on their own project adventures. The kit includes 'Tips & Hints', 'Useful Contacts', a 'Quiz' to test your existing knowledge, and a whole lot more! You can also download the Comic Book for free below.
