Three new job opportunities with Activate Performing Arts
Activate, the Theatre and Dance Development Agency for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset, are looking to recruit the following positions for their upcoming 'Return to Dancing Nepal Project' - Artistic Director/choreographer position, two community dance opportunities and a Video Documenter.

Return to Dancing Nepal Project

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER
Project duration
: February – July 2009

Activate are offering a contract for an Artistic Director/Choreographer for an exciting cultural exchange project in Blandford, Dorset working with the Gurkha/Nepalese community based at the Queens Royal Signals army camp, schools and community youth groups.

Return to Dancing Nepal project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and Dorset County Council is an 18 month project designed to develop new cultural exchanges and exploration of heritage through dance, poetry, research and cultural celebrations with the Gurkha community at Blandford Army Camp, Blandford local schools and community youth groups by working with highly skilled artists & heritage professionals.

The artistic director/choreographer will be contracted to oversee the creation of a fusion dance piece that reflects today’s British culture and Nepalese culture by working with the Gurkha army trainees. The artistic director would also oversee the development of delivering creative strands of the core choreographic work by working with young people from the Blandford community and in 2 local school settings.

FEE: Contract fee is £4050, plus travel and accommodation allowance.

2 COMMUNITY DANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Duration: January – February and March – April 2009

Activate, the dance and theatre development agency for Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole is seeking 1-2 freelance community dance practitioners to deliver dance activities on the ‘Return to Dancing Nepal’ project.

The post requires:
1 Community dance practitioner with specific skills with diverse communities;
1 Community dance practitioner with specific skills in youth dance;

These are 2 separate posts that could be filled by 1 suitably skilled person.

FEE: Post 1: up to £525 plus total of £140 travel expenses 
        Post 2: up to £850 plus total of £140 travel expenses

Appointment of a video/photographic documenter
Project duration
: February – July 2009

Activate are offering a contract for a freelance video/photographic artist to document an exciting cultural exchange project in Blandford, Dorset working with the Gurkha/Nepalese community based at the Queens Royal Signals army camp, schools and community youth groups.

The post requires a video/photographic artist to capture the process and record feedback on the project and to a create an archive that reflects the projects aims to be showcased at a celebratory event and compliment a tour to up to 5 museums across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset.

FEE: The fee for video/photographic documenter contract is £1575 and includes travel expenses.
