Run by the Royal Opera House, 'Write an Opera Level 1' is a summer course for teachers to develop new skills in drama, music and the visual arts to take back to the classroom.

16 - 23 August 2008 Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon

If you are looking for new ways to bring the arts and creativity together to make a real impact on students’ learning, and are seeking inspiration, challenge and an opportunity for your own creative development, Write an Opera may be for you.

What is Write an Opera?
Led by a team of professional artists (who possess extensive arts education experience), the Royal Opera House's internationally acclaimed Write an Opera course equips teachers with practical skills to support the development of their students' learning through the arts. It provides the tools and structures with which to undertake an in-school project in which students devise and stage their own opera from scratch.

Who can apply?
Write an Opera is suitable for any teacher with enthusiasm for, interest in, or curiosity about the arts and creative learning. While some specialist knowledge in drama, music or visual art is an advantage, it is not essential. Aimed particularly at KS2, Write an Opera has proved equally popular and successful at all Key Stages and in Special Schools.

Cost?
£375 UK / £425 non-UK (Cost includes course fee, accommodation and food; bursaries available upon application)
