A dedicated website has been launched to gather these stories and capture the heritage of Bournemouths' most iconic landmark so that its memories can be brought to life in a new educational film.

People are being encouraged to log onto www.ourpier.co.uk and share their memories, experiences and opinions of the pier. There are also a number of events planned where people can share their stories with the team and other pier visitors in person - dates on the webstie.

With thousands of people visiting the pier each year, the filmmakers hope that the project will breathe life into a pier which most local people use without a second thought.  Bournemouth Pier has a long history within our community and has played a vital role in the region's tourism.  It is used as a symbol of identity for the town and hosts a range of events from races, carnivals, fairs, concerts to firework displays.  This project will explore the piers prominent place within our community and celebrate over 150 years of iconic history.

All the different pier stories will be gathered on the OUR PIER web site and a BIG Pier Vote will take place later in the year providing a unique opportunity for everyone to have their say on which stories should be recorded for prosperity. 

The final OUR PIER DVD will be in production next year and will be freely available on-line, in local schools, colleges and libraries.

The project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Bournemouth Borough Council Arts Grant and is sponsored by local businesses Arbua, Shakeaway and Nationwide.
