Buskers Receive Support From New Website

A new initiative called Musical Busker has been launched in a website, www.musicalbusker.co.uk, to support and promote the art of busking.

musicalbusker.co.uk provides free practical advice to buskers, promotional opportunities and access to useful resources. These include a list of local councils that license street entertainment and a list of UK busking festivals.

This much needed resource fills a gap in the services that exist for street artists. There is growing support in this sector for more large scale public art, and Musical Busker aims to complement this by  providing support for smaller scale street entertainment.

The development of Musical Busker is being led by Amy Commander, a recent music graduate of Leeds University.

“I noticed that there are many talented performers out there, but a lot are not appreciated as much as they could be. This is because they are perhaps playing songs that few people want to hear or are not performing in the best location,”  Amy comments.  The website gives advice on location and repertoire choice, utilising experience of many years as a successful busker to help fellow performers, and improve the experience of street entertainment for the general public.

“I am a big fan of street entertainment, it can really add to vibrancy and culture of a place. Musical Busker aims to encourage more people to get involved and promotes their efforts.” The website also brings performers up to date with the legal issues surrounding street arts and summarises the variety of opportunities available to them.
