Big Dance 2012

Big Dance 2012 is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of dance. Taking place across the UK, Big Dance will feature thousands of events inspired by dance. They will take place in all sorts of locations and in all dance styles which will all be open to absolutely anyone. Events will include classes, workshops, courses, performances, flashmobs, have-a-go days, film screenings, photography courses, competitions, world record attempts, dancing in unusual spaces – shops, parks, galleries, shopping centres – dancing in schools,at home, wherever you like.

BBC Performing Arts Fund

This year the BBC Performing Arts Fund will be giving £450,000 to the development of new music and new musicians through two new schemes – Community Music (launching in May 2012) and Music Fellowships (open for applications in August 2012).

Outdoor performance residency weekend: 26th & 27th May 2012
As part of the Inside Out Dorset Festival, Activate is bringing Jany Jérémie from France, a highly innovative French choreographer who has worked on an outstanding variety of large scale movement projects all over the world. Through her immensely varied work Jany has combined dance with music, text, circus and open spaces. This residency presents an exceptional opportunity for local practitioners (dancers, theatre practitioners, movement artists) who are interested in developing their creative practice outdoors, learning from Jany’s skill and experience in making outdoor, sitespecific work.   The residency takes place at Pavilion Dance Centre, Bournemouth.

Cultural Education Review launched
The long-awaited Review of Cultural Education in England was published in February 2012. This document and consultation work sets out 24 key recommendations, which aim to give all children and young people access to a high quality cultural education offer, helping to enrich and inspire their lives. The Government have responded with support for all the recommendations, and begun to confirm actions and funding to take some of this work forward. It's an exciting time for cultural education!

The Big Jurassic Classroom - Free teacher training sessions
The Big Jurassic Classroom is an Inspire Mark education programme that brings together the 7 Olympic and Paralympic Values with World Hertitage to celebrate the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site hosting the London 2012 Sailing events.  They are offering FREE 2 hour teacher training sessions to Bournemouth, Poole & Dorset Schools.
