Bournemouth Borough Council Arts Development is offering free DET training to artists and organisations who are involved in developing Bournemouth based projects. The day will be facilitated by Jo Verrent. Places are limited so early application is recommended. (Maximum 23). Priority booking will be given to recipients of a Bournemouth Arts Grant 2008-9.

Aims
• To gain a core, shared understanding of Disability Equality principals
• To provide an introduction to some of the current issues connected to Disability Arts
• To provide a deeper understanding of how to include disabled people within arts and cultural projects.

Key outcomes
o A practical understanding of the medical and social models of disability
o An understanding of how our current view of disabled people sits in a historical context
o Increased knowledge of appropriate language and behaviour with disabled people and how the two points above link to these
o A working knowledge of the DDA as it relates to art project management
o Explored issues of quality, aesthetics and labels with reference to disabled artists
o Explored the importance of representation with reference to disabled artists/people
o Gained a deeper understanding of how to include disabled people within arts & cultural projects.
