Event description:

Adrian Evans, Pageant Master for next year’s Royal Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, is the headline speaker at “DON’T RAIN ON MY PARADE!” the Jurassic Coast Pow-Wow for parades, processions and carnival, taking place in Lyme Regis on Saturday 1st October 2011.

The conference takes place at the Marine Theatre and aims to inspire the region’s carnival committees, community activists and creative practitioners to develop exciting and ambitious outdoor parades and processions.

Adrian Evans is director of The Mayor’s Thames Festival, London’s largest outdoor arts festival, which every September brings together Londoners from all communities to celebrate their city and the River Thames. This year he was appointed Royal Pageant Master to design a huge outdoor river procession to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next June.

DON’T RAIN ON MY PARADE is organised by Activate Performing Arts and also features workshops from carnival designers Ali Pretty of Kinetica, London and South Western designers Annabelle Macfadyen, Mel Day and Nick Mercer, plus presentations, discussions and performance.

A regular visitor to Dorset Adrian Evans said,
“Outdoor parades in the UK bring a range of challenges, political, artistic, financial and, of course the weather! Yet successful events unite communities and enable us to experience our environments differently. The South West has a great tradition of outdoor parades and the Creative Coast initiative is a chance to re-imagine the artform.”
