Event description:
Poole Literary Festival (PLF) Young People's Programme - An invitation to get involved!

PLF is a new literary event celebrating the past, present & future of the word and will take place 29th - 31st October 2010 in various venues around Poole. We are a not for profit organisation that wishes to raise the profile of literature and to help promote Poole as a cultural destination by establishing a festival that the local community can be proud of and fully engage with whilst attracting new people to the area. PLF will help create a new culture of reading, writing and creating through a diverse and stimulating programme of events. We wish to make a long term and sustainable difference within Poole and hope that the festival becomes a highlight in the UK literary calendar.

One way we can do this is by creating an environment where young people are invited and supported to curate events and activities during the festival which interest and are appropriate / relevant to themselves and their peers.

We are inviting representatives from young people's groups to attend a Visioning Session on:

Wednesday 5th May 2010, 6 - 7pm @ Function Room One at the Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole.

During this session, the representatives will meet and come together and have the opportunity to curate a whole day of the festival (Friday 29th October) as well as other events by telling us what they would like to see or take part in.

We are also inviting young people to become PLF volunteers during the festival. Each young volunteer will be given training by shadowing a member of the auditorium staff at Lighthouse for one performance over the summer, providing them with a valuable insight into how to be responsible for the health and safety of an audience in a professional arts venue.

We hope to give young people confidence and responsibility by facilitating the events curated by them, by providing shadow training and by acknowledging that their ideas, skills and voices are valued by PLF. We will do this by bringing key partner organisations, venues and professionals in literature, the arts and new media to work together and would like to thank Arts Council England, The Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole's Borough Council Arts Development Team and wave arts education agency for supporting this programme.
