A Fine Family Foundation Gigapan Workshop for artists has been organised for Tues 30th March at Bournemouth University.

Come and learn how to use the amazing gigapan camera - a relatively new form of photography in which scenes are captured in enormous detail. The results can be spectacular and thought-provoking. A typical gigapan is hundreds of times more detailed than an ordinary photograph and can be thousands of times larger.

The concept of a gigapan and the technology used to create one came out of a project to create responsible world citizens - people with respect for the culture of others and the environment. Gigapans are hosted on the internet for everyone to explore and comment on and the resulting conversations create friendships and communities. Gigapans have been taken into schools in a number of countries to further the aims of the project.

This workshop follows on from the Jurassic Coast Gigapan Workshop held at Easter 2009 where invited artists and scientists were trained to use the technology for creating gigapans. In the 2010 workshop we will review what the 2009 participants have been able to achieve and discuss the pros and cons of using gigapans in the arts and sciences.
