Arts & Health South West Members* Meeting - Understanding Evaluation
30th September 2009 @ Gloucestershire Resource Centre, City Works, Alfred Street, Gloucester, GL1 4DF

*Also open to non-members willing to join Arts & Health South West as an individual or organisation.

This Arts & Health South West day will explore evaluation and look at how it can improve standards, accountability and best practice in arts and health. Presentations of Case Studies and Practical workshops will be part of the day with a signposting sheet available to take away at the end.

Agenda overview:
Introduction to the day - Setting the context: Overview of Research, Approaches to Evaluation, Types of Evaluation, the Evidence Base, the National Context. Presentation by Jane Willis, Chair of Arts & Health South West.

Presentation by Jayne Howard, Director of Arts for Health Cornwall.  Examines why Evaluation is important and how it is used at AFHC.  Case studying Older People’s Project.

Presentation by Lisa Otter-Barry, Co-ordinator, Soundwell Music Therapy Trust.  Lisa will present an Independent Evaluation of Soundwell's adult mental health music therapy work, done by Bath University Mental health R&D team.

A choice of 3 breakout sessions:
- Evaluation on a Budget: a basic guide to evaluation techniques with Norma Daykin, University of the West of England
- Undertaking an Inclusional Evaluation with Dr Marian Naidoo, Naidoo & Associates/University of Bath.  This simple step-by-step guide provides a process for evaluating the impact of the work of arts projects.  It will also assist arts practitioners and organisations to build capacity for self-evaluation.
- Evaluation Toolkit for practitioners to use with NHS Staff. Workshop with Jayne Howard, Arts for Health Cornwall.

Cost: £10 for lunch for AHSW members. £20 for non-members joining as individuals & £40 for non members joining as organisations. This price includes lunch/refreshments and membership until 31st March 2010.
